FROM MACMILLAN:
Macmillan Partners with Panopto, Leader in Lecture Capture

i>clicker and Panopto to Create New Lecture Capture Products for Growing Higher Education Audience

New York, NY, June 2, 2010 – Global publisher Macmillan has entered into a strategic partnership with Panopto, Inc., provider of one of the fastest growing lecture capture solutions in higher education. Through this venture, i>clicker, a division of Macmillan, will team with Panopto to develop easy-to-use tools that activate and extend the classroom environment . Together, i>clicker and Panopto will develop, market, and distribute a suite of digital learning products based on Panopto’s lecture capture technology and targeted at the needs of the North American higher education market.

With Panopto’s lecture capture technology, instructors can easily combine audio, video, PowerPoint slides, and screen-capture into one immediately accessible, searchable and integrated resource for students. The Panopto technology enables faculty to make class time more interactive while giving students access to the professor’s lecture and additional course content before and after class.

"Panopto’s technology is so powerful, yet so simple, that we expect it to help lecture capture become the next breakthrough technology in higher education," said Brian Napack, president of Macmillan. "Our partnership is designed to take lecture capture to the widest possible audience, allowing instructors to reach students when and where they are needed most."

Panopto’s software-based solution, originally developed at Carnegie Mellon University, is recognized for its superior ease-of-use and scalability. Since its launch in spring 2008, Panopto has been adopted at more than 350 higher educational institutions in the United States and Canada.

According to Eric Burns, chief technology officer for Panopto, "With this partnership, we can achieve our shared mission of transforming and extending the learning environment in higher education, and at the same time, deliver students the best learning tools available."

Nicholas Laudato, associate director for Instructional Technology, at the University of Pittsburgh, commented, "Panopto has the potential to do for streaming rich media content what Blackboard did for course web pages, that is, make it available to all faculty, regardless of their level of technical sophistication."
