This Week In Ideas Shared With A Panopto Video — July 3, 2014
We’re taking a holiday.
Tomorrow is July 4th, and here in Panopto’s Seattle and Pittsburgh offices that means we’ll be out, celebrating Independence Day in America.
But like virtually every company these days, some of us will still be hard at work. Our UK and China offices will still hum, of course, as well as our customer service team, always on call. And just as will happen at most companies tomorrow, almost certainly someone will have a question — how a technical detail works, or where something needs to be filed.
For many companies, when the person who knows the answer to that question is out, there’s only one solution:
But that doesn’t always have to be the case. Here at Panopto and the hundreds of other companies that use video to record and share, if a team member has a question the first step isn’t to call the subject matter expert — it’s to check the video library to see if the answer has already been documented there.
Most of the time, everything we’ll need can be found with a quick video search — meaning we’re never more than a play button away from the answer, even if our expert is out on the beach.
More and more organizations are seeing the value of capturing knowledge and sharing it with video. This week we saw ever more educational and entertaining recordings among the latest presentations shared online with the Panopto video platform. And in the spirit of passing it on, these are just a few of the ideas shared this week with Panopto’s presentation recording software.
Developments in Composite Construction
The adoption of composite (steel-concrete) construction in the 1980s was one of the major contributors to the growth in use of steel in the UK. Developments over the past decade, in terms of both products to seek ever greater efficiencies, and codified design guidance, will be presented and discussed. Learn more about this essential technology from Dr Graham Couchman, CEO of the Steel Construction Institute, as he shares his expertise with the Institution of Structural Engineers in this recorded presentation.
M25 Learning Technology Group Conference
Since 2001 the M25 Learning Technology group is a forum primarily for Learning Technology staff in London Higher Education institutions. Here at Panopto, we’re pleased the group has chosen our video platform to record, live webcast, and share their latest conference on-demand. Check it out for a great look at a number of new thoughts in learning design, e-learning, and other tools and systems universities are experimenting with in order to enhance students’ learning experiences.
The Trauma Breakfast — Wessex Trauma Network
Join the Wessex Trauma Network of healthcare practitioners for this latest installment of their regular breakfast networking conferences, as it was recorded and live-streamed with Panopto. The team shares detailed accounts of some of their latest work with their colleagues, including inspections of liver anatomy and mechanisms of injury. This event is a great example of how organizations can capture and share the ideas presented as part of regular meetings.
Tourism Supply Chain — GSM London
Sit in with the GSM London Management for Tourism class for this recorded lecture for a flipped classroom. Professor Corinna Chin shares with her class a detailed review of the factors and entities that comprise the structure of the tourism industry, including elements of supply, producers like travel agents and tourism organizations, the impact of public organizations, and quite a bit more.
Investigating Japan’s Recovery After the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami
An Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team of 11 members spent 6 days in Japan’s Tohoku region investigating the recovery two years after the tremendous earthquake and tsunami of March 2011. The team worked closely with Tohoku University’s International Research Institute of Disaster Science, visiting 6 towns devastated by the tsunami and holding interviews with local authorities, NGOs, people directly involved in reconstruction and recovery projects, academics and research institutions to learn about the challenges and plans that are currently being designed, executed or are in public consultation phase. Find out what they learned, and what it will mean for future earthquake readiness, in this recorded seminar.
Federal TEACH Grant Overview
Looking to pursue a degree to teach in a high-need or shortage-subject area, like math, science, foreign language, or special education? Don’t miss this informational video from Iowa State University, as the team gives a brief introduction to the student aid available as part of the Federal TEACH Grant, as well as the post-degree requirements for those who seek to apply for the award.
