Today, IDG’s CIO magazine announced the winners of this year’s prestigious CIO 100 awards. Siemens PLM Software made the list for its innovative event video capture solution that recorded 35 speakers and 30+ sessions over three days using only laptops, webcams and Panopto’s online presentation tools.
Every year CIO magazine identifies and honors 100 organizations that have distinguished themselves by creating business value through the effective and innovative use of IT. This year, alongside cloud and virtualization implementations, video capture is being recognized for the impact that it can have on an organization’s business.
So what exactly did the Siemens team do to deliver award-winning business value?
While planning their employee conference in Madrid, Siemens faced a common challenge: how to capture and preserve valuable presentations in a timely and cost-effective manner, and make it available to employees who didn’t attend in person. There was only one problem — Siemens’ conference planners forecast that recreating their conference digitally would take 200 hours of work and wouldn’t be ready for 30 to 45 days after the event. With no budget for professional AV consultants, videographers and expensive AV hardware, and no time for lengthy post-production work, event organizers needed to find a dramatically different way to capture these important presentations.
Enter Panopto. Using laptops, webcams, USB microphones and Panopto software, the team recorded every session and made it accessible and fully searchable to all staff—all within a week of the conference’s close and using only hardware they already owned. Shortly after the videos were made available, they had been viewed more than 500 times by more than 200 Siemens employees.
We’re thrilled that Panopto could provide Siemens PLM with the tools for this innovative event capture solution, and even more excited that the Siemens PLM team is being recognized for their great work!
