The Challenge
Northeastern University is a private research university offering undergraduate and graduate programs on its main campus in Boston along with multiple satellite campuses. Northeastern features a cooperative education program, blending in-classroom study along with professional experiences.
In 2019, Northeastern University decided to migrate its 15,000+ courses to both a new learning management system (LMS) and video content management system. The university switched from Blackboard to Canvas and from Kaltura to Panopto, initially planning to adopt a measured approach to the migration.
When COVID-19 hit, it had to change its plans and accelerate the transition to online teaching and learning and later, to a flexible hybrid model to accommodate the reduced density restrictions.
The Solution
Northeastern turned to K16 Solutions to help migrate course content easily, accurately, and quickly from one platform to another by applying its automation technology. K16 Solutions automated the deletion and replacement of obsolete links and Kaltura videos within Northeastern’s LMS and replaced them with correct mapping to the university’s new Panopto videos.

The Impact
Students enjoy having their information organized online and hope their instructors will continue to provide robust virtual offerings. Faculty are content as well, noting they plan to continue using the tools even after students return to the classroom.
