Panopto Announces New API, Features and Partnerships to Drive Student Engagement During Remote Learning

Integrations with H5P and Hihaho help instructors make educational videos more interactive and engaging

SEATTLE–Panopto, the leading video management system provider, today announced a new application programming interface (API), new features, and partnerships that provide educational institutions with expansive new options to drive student engagement in remote learning.

With millions of students around the world shifting to remote learning, instructors have scrambled to find ways to keep students engaged from a distance. This is true not only for online classes that meet on a schedule, but also for on-demand assignments such as educational videos.

Educators are increasingly looking for tools to make content more interactive, immersive, and effective. To address this demand, Panopto has partnered with Joubel, the creators of the popular H5P platform, and Hihaho, a video enrichment company. These new partnerships allow Panopto videos to be deeply integrated into both platforms, enabling a wide array of interactive features to drive student engagement in remote learning.

Newly enabled features include:

  • Advanced quizzing with dozens of question types, quiz branching, and detailed assessment capabilities
  • Hotspot overlays that call attention to specific video elements
  • Easy navigation to move between videos and related objects, such as images and web pages
  • Enhanced playlist controls with branching to allow students to create their own learning journey

“From day one, we have relentlessly pursued new ways to optimize video for learning,” added Sean Gorman, Chief Operating Officer, Panopto. “Our new embedded API allows partner companies to supplement the existing interactivity of Panopto videos with even richer learning experiences for students around the world.”

The new integrations are now available to customers who have Panopto Enterprise as well as a license to H5P.com, Hihaho, or a self-hosted version of H5P.
