Panopto and Kollective Announce Enterprise Video Partnership

Video platform and ECDN leaders join forces to deliver best-of-breed, software-based intranet video solution for businesses and universities

Seattle/Sunnyvale, August 19, 2015 — Panopto, an enterprise video platform provider, and Kollective, a software-defined networking company, today announced a strategic partnership. The partnership brings together Panopto’s video content management system (VCMS) and Kollective’s software defined enterprise content delivery network (SD ECDN) to provide businesses and universities with a best-of-breed live streaming solution for corporate intranets. The solution enables organizations to quickly deploy video streaming infrastructure with minimal impact on network traffic. In many cases, the solution can eliminate up to 90% of WAN traffic for live video broadcasts.

In the last five years, video use in the enterprise and academic institutions has seen explosive growth. Within the enterprise, large businesses are expected, on average, to stream 16 hours of video per employee per month by the end of next year (Gartner). Within academia, more than 80% of colleges and universities are actively using lecture capture technology (Wainhouse Research).

As organizations increasingly deliver high-quality video at scale, spikes in viewing can stress WAN capacity depending on network topology and available bandwidth, leading to latency, buffering, and degradation of other mission-critical traffic.

To address this growing challenge, Panopto and Kollective have partnered to deliver an all-in-one intranet video solution consisting of Panopto’s VCMS and Kollective’s SD ECDN:

Panopto and Kollective Solution - Panopto VCMS

The solution enables businesses and universities to efficiently stream video with no additional investment in network capacity. Because the solution is entirely software-based, it can be deployed in a matter of days without the need to invest in expensive, specialized caching hardware.

Panopto and Kollective are working together to ensure that the products integrate seamlessly with one another. The integrated solution is compatible with Panopto’s cloud and on-premises offerings.

As part of the partnership, Panopto and Kollective will engage in joint marketing and selling efforts. Either company can resell the other’s product based on the needs of the client or market segment.

“As enterprises and academia adopt live video solutions, it is increasingly important for them to make the necessary preparations for those video solutions to scale across these large organizations. This partnership allows Kollective and Panopto to bring their core strengths together to optimize the user experience for both publishers and viewers; and to enable a scalable solution without any further investment in network infrastructure”, said Dan Vetras, CEO of Kollective.

“For businesses and universities, the question isn’t whether or when to invest in an intranet video strategy — it’s how to manage the wave of video that is already upon them,” said Eric Burns, CEO of Panopto. “Using Panopto and Kollective, these organizations can future-proof their video infrastructure with a solution that can be deployed in a matter of days, that scales elastically with demand, and that requires no investment in new network capacity or specialized hardware.”
