University of Kent Chooses Panopto for Campus-wide Lecture Capture Project
Today (Thursday 25 July), Panopto has announced that its video management software has been selected by the University of Kent to provide lecture recording across all campuses. The Kent team selected Panopto’s lecture capture solution after a rigorous tender process because of its scalability, ease-of-use and rich functionality.
The University’s aim is to use Panopto’s lecture and video capture capabilities to enhance their student experience by enabling on-demand viewings of lecture content for study and revision purposes. The University, which entered the top 20 of UK universities in the Guardian University Guide 2014, was also placed third for overall student satisfaction in the most recent National Student Survey (2012). This commitment to ensuring its students have the best possible learning experience drives the adoption of new technologies to support teaching and course delivery. Their adoption of lecture recording forms an important part of their effort to boost student engagement and integrate digital elements into traditional teaching and learning methods.
David Nightingale, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Kent said:
“Lecture recording makes a positive contribution to the ways our students learn and revise. The Panopto system will not only help us maximise the potential of such technology and its contribution to our academic offer but it will also ensure that the University remains at the forefront of developments in this area.”
Tom Davy, CEO at Panopto Europe said:
“The Panopto team is delighted to have been selected by the University of Kent as their lecture capture and video management provider. We are already working with around 40 UK higher education institutions and 500 organisations globally. This means that Kent has joined an active and growing community of European and international users who are all using our solution to transform the learning experience at their institutions.”
The University of Kent intends to implement the Panopto system across all their campuses, both in the UK and in continental Europe.
About the University of Kent
The University of Kent – the UK’s European University – was established at Canterbury in 1965. It has almost 20,000 students and operates campuses or study centres at Canterbury, Medway, Tonbridge, Brussels, Paris, Athens and Rome. It has long-standing partnerships with more than 100 major European universities and many others across the world, including institutions in Argentina, China, Japan, USA, Canada, Malaysia and Peru.
Kent is one of the few universities to be consistently rated by its own students as one of the best in the UK for the quality of its teaching and academic provision. This includes its 3rd place for overall student satisfaction in the 2012 National Student Survey. It was also ranked 20th in the 2014 Guardian University Guide, 28th in the Sunday Times University League Table 2013, and 28th in the Complete University Guide 2014.
In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, Kent placed 24th out of 159 participating institutions in the UK for its world-leading research, while 97% of its academic staff work in schools or centres where the research is rated as either internationally or nationally excellent.
It is worth £0.6 billion to the economy of the South East, with its students contributing £211 million to that total. The University also supports directly or indirectly almost 6,800 jobs in the South East (source: Viewforth Consulting, 2009-10).
In 2012, Kent launched a campaign to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
