Panopto Offers Lecture Capture Solution to Moodle Community

CourseCast module allows Moodle users to publish CourseCast presentations directly to the Moodle open source platform

Pittsburgh, Pa., August 12, 2009 Panopto, Inc., a leading provider of media-rich knowledge casting and management solutions for the corporate, education, government and healthcare markets, today announced that it has integrated its CourseCast lecture capture solution to Moodle, the fastest growing open source content management system (CMS) in higher education.

Panopto has completed this integration to provide Moodle users across the globe with access to a lecture capture solution that provides unmatched functionality, flexibility and value. With the new integration, joint Panopto and Moodle users can post CourseCast recordings to Moodle automatically, providing students with access to more engaging and realistic lecture materials.

“CourseCast’s new Moodle integration empowers users to combine the benefits of CourseCast with the rich functionality of Moodle’s leading CMS platform,” said Eric Burns, co-founder and chief technology officer of Panopto. “With CourseCast, faculty and administrators can record, edit and post lectures to Moodle instantly, providing students with a richer classroom experience “ both on campus and online.”

CourseCast produces digital recordings that utilize a media-rich split screen format where students can listen to a recorded lecture, view corresponding PowerPoint slides, and take notes that can be saved for future reference. And through the Socrates Program, educational institutions qualify for free CourseCast software, significantly lowering the solution’s total cost of ownership.

With more than 23 million registered users, Moodle has become the go-to platform for thousands of top colleges and universities across the globe. With Moodle, educators develop integrated online learning environments by posting critical knowledge including recorded videos, audio podcasts, written assignments, quizzes, forums and more to course-specific Web sites controlled by faculty and instructors.

Moodle user Lubbock Christian University (LCU) deployed the platform across its campus in 2008 and now is looking forward to implementing Panopto in tandem with its Moodle CMS solution.

“Moodle provides faculty, administrators and students with the tools they need to ensure classroom learning does not end when they leave the classroom,” said Bill Kopf, Director of distance Learning, “Now with the addition of Panopto, LCU will be able to use Moodle not only for posting notes and PowerPoint slides, but also for recording media-rich videos that can help foster an innovative and collaborative learning environment.”

The new Panopto CourseCast integration will be available in the coming weeks to supported Panopto and Moodle customers. Please note that a Panopto CourseCast license and open-source Moodle license are necessary for deployment.
