Northeastern University is a private research university offering undergraduate and graduate programs on its main campus in Boston along with multiple satellite campuses. Northeastern features a cooperative education program, blending in-classroom study along with professional experiences.
In 2019, Northeast University decided to migrate its 15,000+ courses to both a new learning management system (LMS) and video content management system. The university switched from Blackboard to Canvas and from Kaltura to Panopto, initially planning to adopt a measured approach to the migration.
When COVID-19 hit, it had to change its plans and accelerate the transition to online teaching and learning and later, to a flexible hybrid model to accommodate the reduced density restrictions.
Northeastern turned to K16 Solutions to help migrate course content easily, accurately, and quickly from one platform to another by applying its automation technology. K16 Solutions automated the deletion and replacement of obsolete links and Kaltura videos within Northeastern’s LMS and replaced them with correct mapping to the university’s new Panopto videos.
“We knew just how critical this migration project was for Northeastern; especially since their timeline to move to Canvas had been reduced,” said Sam Yaghoubi, VP of Implementation at K16 Solutions and lead on the project. “It was our job not only to meet their timeline but also to ensure the content accurately transferred so faculty could begin teaching immediately.”
“Our partnership with Panopto is another example of just how much institutions are in need of automated solutions that help them quickly implement new technologies their students, faculty, and staff demand. We are thrilled to be working in tandem with one of the most respected video platform providers on the market and look forward to helping customers move to Panopto with extreme ease and accuracy.”Dr. Thomas Waite, President and CEO, K16 Solutions
Students are enjoying having their information organized online and hope their instructors will continue to provide robust virtual offerings. Faculty are content as well, noting they plan to continue using the tools, even after students return to the classroom.
“Over the last decade and particularly in the last few years, streaming video platforms have become critical infrastructure for modern institutions of higher education,” says Eric Burns, Founder and Strategic Advisor of Panopto. “Many institutions are consolidating their video solutions and upgrading to Panopto, and K16’s premium migration service makes these transitions quick, easy, and comprehensive. Thanks to K16 Solutions, switching to Panopto is easier than ever.”
