WeVideo
Video creation and engagement
Overview
WeVideo is a professional, cloud-based video creation and interactive video learning platform that helps educators, trainers, and creators activate learning with video—turning passive viewers into active participants. Panopto’s integration with WeVideo connects Panopto’s secure video management platform to WeVideo’s professional, browser-based editor, giving creators advanced production tools for the video content they already have in Panopto.
Users import a Panopto recording directly into WeVideo, edit with a full suite of easy-to-use tools—multi-layer editing, multi-track audio, voiceover, transitions, titles and overlays, green screen, music, stock media, and organization-branded templates—and then publish the finished video straight back to Panopto as a new session. It’s a seamless round-trip with no downloading or re-uploading: Panopto remains the system of record, and published videos are automatically captioned, transcribed, made searchable, and AI-summarized at the point of publication.
Panopto and WeVideo work better together. Panopto is the home for your video—where content is captured, managed, and shared—while WeVideo brings a professional editing studio to that content whenever you want to take it further. Together they give creators a smooth, end-to-end workflow: your video stays governed in Panopto, with the freedom to create and polish in WeVideo and publish right back.

Frequently asked questions
How does the Panopto WeVideo integration work?
The Panopto WeVideo integration is a round-trip workflow that lets users edit Panopto recordings in WeVideo’s cloud-based editor and publish the result back to Panopto. A user connects their Panopto account to WeVideo, imports a Panopto recording into the WeVideo editor, produces polished video using WeVideo’s editing tools, and publishes the finished video back to Panopto as a new session. Panopto remains the system of record throughout, and published videos are captioned, transcribed, indexed for search, and AI-summarized at the point of publication. A Panopto administrator completes a one-time setup to enable the integration for the license, and individual users then connect their own Panopto accounts.
How is the Panopto WeVideo integration different from Panopto’s built-in video editor?
Panopto’s built-in editor and the WeVideo integration serve different editing needs and are designed to work together. Panopto’s built-in editor handles fast, in-place edits—trimming, chapters, captions, quizzes, and multi-stream lectures—without leaving Panopto. The WeVideo integration adds advanced production for content that needs to go further: multi-layer editing, transitions, titles and overlays, voiceover, music, green screen, stock media, and organization-branded templates. Quick edits stay in Panopto; advanced production happens in WeVideo and returns to Panopto as a new session.
Does editing a video in WeVideo change the original Panopto recording?
No. Editing in WeVideo does not change or overwrite the original Panopto recording. The integration creates an independent copy in each direction: importing brings a copy of the Panopto video into WeVideo, and publishing creates a new, separate Panopto session rather than overwriting the source. The original recording and the new WeVideo-produced version exist independently in Panopto.
Does the Panopto WeVideo integration support multi-stream video, such as a presenter and slides?
The Panopto WeVideo integration works with a single, primary video stream—the Panopto podcast output—rather than multiple simultaneous streams. For a multi-stream Panopto session (for example, presenter and slides), users can set the desired podcast output format in Panopto before importing, import the streams separately, or assemble a multi-stream session natively using Panopto’s Build a Session feature. Step-by-step guidance is available in the linked support documentation.
Are captions, transcripts, and search applied when a WeVideo-edited video is published back to Panopto?
Yes. Any video published from WeVideo to Panopto is processed the same way as a native Panopto recording: it is automatically captioned and transcribed, indexed for AI search, and AI-summarized. This means WeVideo-produced content is fully accessible and discoverable in Panopto immediately after publishing.
What do I need to use the Panopto WeVideo integration?
Using the Panopto WeVideo integration requires a Panopto site and a WeVideo license. A Panopto administrator completes a one-time setup to enable the integration at the license level, and individual users then connect their own Panopto accounts from within WeVideo’s account settings. Full setup steps are available in the linked support documentation.
