Overview
Q-SYS is a cloud-manageable audio, video, and control platform from QSC used in higher education, corporate, and government environments to manage AV systems across rooms and facilities. Q-SYS touchscreens and controllers provide a unified interface for managing all AV functions within a space.
The Panopto plugin for Q-SYS connects Q-SYS directly to Panopto Cloud, enabling Q-SYS users to control Panopto remote recorders from within the Q-SYS environment. Users enter their Panopto credentials and select a remote recorder ID to connect—after which the plugin displays connection status, upcoming scheduled recordings, and recording controls alongside other AV management within Q-SYS.
Instructors and presenters start scheduled or ad-hoc recordings, stop sessions, extend recordings, and monitor recording status from the Q-SYS touchscreen without accessing Panopto separately. Recordings publish to the Panopto library automatically. The plugin is available through the Q-SYS Asset Manager and is designed to scale across multiple rooms and locations.

Frequently asked questions
How does the Q-SYS Panopto plugin work?
The Panopto plugin for Q-SYS is installed through the Q-SYS Asset Manager and connects to Panopto Cloud using the user’s Panopto credentials and a selected remote recorder ID. Once connected, the plugin displays the recorder’s connection status and provides recording controls—start, stop, extend, and ad-hoc session creation—directly within the Q-SYS interface.
Recordings publish to the Panopto library automatically when a session ends. Setup guidance is covered in the support documentation linked on this page.
What recording controls are available from Q-SYS?
From the Q-SYS touchscreen or controller, users can start scheduled recordings, start ad-hoc recordings, stop recordings in progress, and extend active sessions. Upcoming scheduled recordings are visible from the panel, giving presenters a view of what is queued without accessing Panopto directly.
Connection status to the remote recorder is displayed in the plugin interface, so users can confirm the recording device is reachable before starting a session.
Does the Q-SYS plugin work with both scheduled and ad-hoc recordings?
Yes. The plugin supports both scheduled recordings—pulled from Panopto’s recording schedule—and ad-hoc recordings initiated manually from the Q-SYS panel. This gives presenters the flexibility to start a recording outside a scheduled session when needed, without requiring access to the Panopto platform separately.
How does Q-SYS handle audio-video synchronization with Panopto?
The plugin is designed to synchronize Q-SYS audio inputs with Panopto video streams, ensuring that room audio managed through Q-SYS is captured in sync with the video recorded by the connected Panopto remote recorder. For spaces where Q-SYS manages DSP audio processing alongside AV control, this keeps audio and video aligned without manual adjustment.
How does this compare to Crestron, Extron, and Harman AMX integrations with Panopto?
All four integrations—Q-SYS, Crestron, Extron, and Harman AMX—connect room AV control systems to Panopto’s recording workflow, allowing instructors and presenters to manage recordings from an in-room touchpanel. The choice between them is typically determined by which AV control platform is already installed in a given space.
Q-SYS is distinct in that the integration is delivered as a plugin available through the Q-SYS Asset Manager, and its cloud-manageable architecture supports centralized deployment and monitoring across multiple rooms. Organizations with a mixed estate of control systems can use each integration in the relevant spaces, with all recordings publishing to the same Panopto library.
