| Students rely on lecture recordings to study, but recordings only play back what was already said. When a student wants to ask a question, check their understanding, review before an exam, or hear a concept explained differently, many turn to general AI tools trained on content outside their course. In a global study of 760 students by Hanover Research and Panopto, 65% found AI built into their course video appealing. Only 25% currently have it, but among those who do, 84% call it very or extremely valuable. This session looks at what students are asking for, and what it takes for institutions to meet that demand responsibly. We’ll walk through the research behind the numbers, including what students want from AI study support and when they trust it. Then, we’ll talk through how institutions can bring AI into their existing course content without adding work for faculty or losing control over where answers come from. You’ll leave with a framework for evaluating AI study tools by the source of their answers, and a clearer picture of what an institution-wide rollout really asks of faculty and IT. |
